DON'T DO LIST

Is that what you refer to as a “Don’t Do List”?

I do. In looking at all of the Gurus there are lots of people who explain about prioritising and creating To Do lists. The AutoVation process allows us to audit our activities and when we see where the cost value of our time in different activities, some of those activities on our list are probably things that aren’t relevant to our business and we should just not do. They’re our ‘Don’t Do Lists’.

You’ve got your ‘Don’t Do List’, now how do you determine what you delegate?

In the AutoVation framework what you delegate are those activities that you feel still need to be in your organization or your company either for security reasons or because they’re part of your core business, but that you believe can be done by less expensive resources and people in the organization. Our software tool allows us to do that analysis recognising that even if you delegate an activity it still requires supervision; there’s establishment and training upfront.

A delegated activity doesn’t go away it’s not like our ‘Don’t Do List’ where it’s just gone. It still exists but the high value time required to perform that is being substituted by less expensive value time to perform the activities which is the high value time being there for supervision.
